Bloody Couloir Bike & Ski - SierraDescents.com:
nexperienced skiers, experts included, may try to use vigorous upward motion to initiate their turns.

These attempts at ‘hop’ turns break down as the angle exceeds 45°.

An alternative is to ski not up but out, using gravity and the airy void beneath your body to create separation from the hill.

Begin with a subtle upward motion—a sequential extension of the legs.

Simultaneously, allow your upper body to flow out and down (the brain loves this manuever).

Climbing: Veteran Climber Kellogg Dies in Denali | Loss of Lara Kellogg Felt Worldwide:
his has certainly caused me to rethink the value judgment that the added security is not worth the hassle of stuck ropes and extra time to tie and untie knots.

Or perhaps, a autoblock or klemheist below the rapell device. Dosent take long to tie, dosent get stuck, and lets one go hands free. But, with a single thin strand, and a wet rope, there is no guarantee it will hold. So, in such a situation, a knot could have been the crucial lifesaver.

The Micro Killer Apps:

Web 2.0 is all about micro killer apps. These are killer apps
that are so simple its difficult to explain them to people. Each
one of them does one tiny little thing very well.
del.icio.us does bookmarking
right.
flickr does photo sharing
and tagging. RSS/Atom helps keep track of changes to resources.
Small is beautiful.

None of which integrate together very well. Which is probably why the bizmodel is to sell out to Yahoo or Google, eventually. More scaleable than last times exit-by-IPO, but still constructed in the same philosophy..

One big diff this time around is API’s, which allow for third party integration. But loose coupling only works is Aunt Tillie can put it all together. In other words, systematic, directed mashup capabilities are not available yet.
